Comcast SportsNet leads Mid-Atlantic Chapter with 27 nominations

PHILADELPHIA (August 1, 2013) – In simultaneous announcement parties that took place in Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Harrisburg, officials from the Mid-Atlantic Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) tonight announced the 2013 Mid-Atlantic Emmy® Award Nominations.  Events were held at The Mexican Post in Center City Philadelphia, WQED Multimedia in Pittsburgh, and at The Public Media Center at WITF-TV in Harrisburg.  The awards honor excellence in television news, programming and individual achievement in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware.

The complete list of 2013 nominations can be found by clicking here.

This year, the Chapter received 734 entries in 80 categories, including 73 Emmy® categories and seven college production categories, and 293 entries received nominations.  Emmy® judging is completed by regional NATAS Chapters in comparable TV markets across the country.  All entries in a given category are judged by TV industry professionals with expertise in that category, and the judges apply personal standards of excellence to evaluate each entry in areas of content, creativity and execution.

“This marks the 31st year for the Mid-Atlantic Emmy® Awards, and we are encouraged to see both strong interest and increased participation among members,” said NATAS Chapter President David Solomon, of WQED-TV in Pittsburgh. “We’re proud to announce an 11 percent increase in the number of entries received by the Mid-Atlantic Chapter since last year. The nominations reflect extraordinary talent across the region and will once again recognize up and coming youth as part of the college production categories.”

Regional television professionals will gather to celebrate the 31st Annual Mid-Atlantic Emmy® Awards on Saturday, September 7 at Sheraton Society Hill Hotel located on Dock Street in Philadelphia. Festivities will include a cocktail hour and silent auction to benefit NATAS Scholarship programs, a sit-down dinner and the award presentations. Broadcasting trailblazer Marciarose Shestack will receive the prestigious Board of Governors’ Award which is bestowed by NATAS to recognize career longevity, lifetime achievements and significant contributions to the television industry.
