Citizens Bank Gear for Grades Program continues with donations in Pittsburgh and Wilkes Barre

Thousands of backpacks given to local children in need

Citizens Bank volunteers continue to fulfill part of its annual Gear for Grades initiative by delivering thousands of new backpacks to students in need across the state of Pennsylvania.  During events held in Wilkes Barre and Pittsburgh, representatives from Catholic Social Services, the Homeless Children’s Education Fund and families accepted the donated school supplies.

The new, logo-free backpacks are stuffed with school supplies such as pencils, pens, crayons, glue sticks, plastic rulers, erasers, safety scissors and spiral notebooks. The 150 backpacks, made possible through a $30,000 donation from the Citizens Bank Foundation, are a portion of the 2,000 backpacks that will be distributed to local children in need before the start of the school year. The school supplies were donated by the bank’s customers and colleagues at branches throughout Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware.  Here is a summary of coverage from the events:
