MEGA Manufacturing Youth Summit Draws Local High School Juniors and Seniors

Students to Explore Real World Job Opportunities with Montgomery County Employers

Pottstown, PA (June 3, 2014)– The MEGA Manufacturing Youth Summit held on June 3 at the Science Center Auditorium at Montgomery County Community College brought together nearly 150 Montgomery County-based high school students and 16 employers for hands-on demonstrations, exploration of manufacturing careers and special presentations from Philadelphia native and nationally syndicated cartoonist, Robb Armstrong and Montgomery County Board of Commissioners Chairman, Josh Shapiro.  The Summit was organized by the Montgomery County Department of Commerce and the MidAtlantic Employers’ Association.

According to the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia, one in three manufacturers surveyed have experienced significant labor shortages.   In Montgomery County, Manufacturing is the fourth largest industry by employment and the fifth largest by advertised job openings (1,024 as of 5/15/14).
