NASCAR driver Martin Truex, Jr. and the Ronald McDonald House of Southern New Jersey unveil new bedroom

Sponsored by The Martin Truex Jr. Foundation, the ‘Best Friends’ themed bedroom was officially dedicated during a ceremony and reception at the House on Thursday, May 12

CAMDEN, NJRonald McDonald House of Southern New Jersey welcomed Martin Truex Jr. and his longtime girlfriend Sherry Pollex last night to introduce the House’s newest bedroom designed to accommodate families while their children are being treated at South Jersey hospitals. The room was built and decorated thanks to a generous donation by the Martin Truex Jr. Foundation, an organization started by Truex Jr. and Pollex in 2007 with a focus on raising awareness and funding for childhood and ovarian cancer initiatives.RMHNASCAR%

“Helping families dealing with childhood cancer is something that Sherry and I have been supporting for many years now,” said Martin Truex, Jr. “Having been born and raised in South Jersey, we jumped at the chance as soon as we learned of the opportunity to support the Ronald McDonald House of Southern New Jersey. I am honored to partner with such an awesome organization and grateful to be able to give back to my home state in this way. Our hope is that each family who spends time in the ‘Best Friends’ room will feel cared for and comfortable while having to be away from their own home, family and friends.”

Known as the ‘Best Friends’ room, the bedroom sports a woodland animal theme and is decorated in soothing, muted colors to emphasize peace and calm for its visitors. It is the 25th specialty-themed room to open in the House, joining others with themes such as Candyland, Philadelphia Phillies, and Sesame Street.

“Partnerships like this one with the Martin Truex Jr. Foundation are very important to us and the families that stay here,” said Teddy Thomas, President of the Ronald McDonald House of Southern New Jersey. “Martin and Sherry have been so generous and involved throughout the entire process. It hits close to home for them and you can see that passion and care shining through the new room. We can’t thank them enough.”
