NHS School hosts Autism walk at its Woodhaven campus in celebration of World Autism Awareness Day

Local community also dedicated a memorial bench in memory of Jake Harkins, former 9 year old NHS student with autism who passed away tragically in 2013

PHILADELPHIA (April 2, 2014) – In honor of World Autism Awareness Day, NHS School Philadelphia, which serves children with autism between the ages of five and 21, hosted an autism awareness walk at its 70-acre campus in Woodhaven, PA. NHS students and staff from the NHS Schools of Philadelphia and Warrington walked the NHS Woodhaven campus to celebrate and support students and others living with autism.

The event began with a memorial dedication ceremony honoring nine-year old Jake Harkins, a former NHS student who tragically passed away in September 2013. A memorial bench by the school playground was dedicated in his honor. Jake’s mother, Jessica, and other family members will be present for the ceremony.  Below is a summary of coverage from the event:
