People Helping People, Local Companies Prepare Dunbar Promise Academy for Students’ Return

Philadelphia (August 22, 2014)-  With the School District of Philadelphia still facing enormous financial challenges, a local philanthropy is ensuring that Dunbar Promise Academy is ready for students and teachers when they return for the start of the 2014-15 school year.

This past Thursday, volunteers from People Helping People and other local companies made a number of physical improvements to the classrooms, gymnasium, library, rooftop and schoolyard. Furniture, technology and a new kitchen are being donated to transform the teacher’s lounge.

This is PHP’s third consecutive summer School Improvement Project (June 2012: EM Stanton School, August 2013: George A McCall School) and is part of both PHP’s monthly volunteer program and its Adopt-a-School program.
